Policy

The Government Housing Policy is established centrally. The Government Buildings Agency implements this policy within this framework. We advise and support our clients in incorporating their housing demands within this policy. In the acquisition and management of property for the government, the Government Buildings Agency fulfils the role of professional public client on behalf of the State. For our own clients, this means suitable, sustainable and safe solutions for all their housing questions. At the same time, we ensure that public funds are spent on housing in an efficient manner.

Our exemplary role is a guarantee

The State fulfils an exemplary role when it comes to commissioning construction work. We have the social obligation to review our work and the products and services provided by the Agency with the utmost care. For example, the housing provided by the Government Buildings Agency meets all the current safety standards, which are based on the Bouwbesluit 2003 Nieuwbouw (2003 Building Decree – New Developments).

In addition, we work with sustainable materials and solutions, which reduces the environmental burden. Where beneficial, we utilise the expertise of suppliers, developers and contractors. In this process, we keep a close eye on prices, delivery times, quality and terms of supply. To this end, the Government Buildings Agency clearly formulates its assignments, sets clear requirements and assesses the results. For our clients, this guarantees high-quality solutions at the lowest possible cost.

Quality in the case of new developments and management

In the case of new developments, the Chief Government Architect takes the lead when it comes to promoting and safeguarding the urbanistic integration and architectural quality of the government buildings. This ensures that a new building will not only offer excellent accommodation, but will also form an urbanistic asset in its own right.

In our management of historically significant buildings, we pay attention to the environment, health and sustainability. Examples include energy-saving measures, cost-saving measures, combating legionella and the appropriate removal of asbestos. With the Innovative Techniques for Government Buildings Programme (PITR), the Government Buildings Agency furthermore stimulates the use of techniques that are innovative and reduce carbon emissions.
